SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — The founder of the local nonprofit Fight the War Within was sentenced on Monday after pleading guilty to a federal charge in January of this year. Miranda Briggs was sentenced two months in custody, and three-years of probations. She is also required to pay more than $129,000 in restitution. Briggs faced a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison for wire fraud, but prosecutors recommended probation after the plea agreement was reached.

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (WSAV) – Beaufort County Council agreed to a new plan to renovate Highway 278 Tuesday night after years of back and forth on the issue. After a lengthy public comment period, the council voted 8-2 to pass an amendment that will allow the renovations to get underway as long as the South Carolina State Infrastructure Bank (SIB) agrees to the terms.

STATESBORO, Ga. (WSAV) – With dozens of acres of land in Bulloch County at risk of being rezoned to build single family homes, the county’s Planning and Zoning Commission made a major decision Tuesday. The Bulloch County Planning and Zoning Commission voted to recommend to the county’s Board of Commissioners that they vote no to rezone 60 acres of land on the Highway 119 Connector in Brooklet.
