TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. (WSAV) — Orange Crush on Tybee Island kicks off Saturday, but many partygoers already made their way onto the island Friday. WSAV’s crew was on Tybee all Friday and there was a heavy law enforcement presence. This is the first time Orange Crush organizers are operating under an official permit. Since early this week, Tybee Island officials have been preparing for an event that brings thousands of people to the island each year.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — A shooting left one woman injured on E. 58th Street Tuesday night, a Savannah Police spokesperson said. WSAV had a crew on the scene and saw a person being taken away on a stretcher. A police official said that the woman was shot in the foot. Several Savannah Police cars could be seen in the area shortly before 10:30 p.m.Anyone with information should call CrimeStoppers at 912-234-2020 or submit a tip using the mobile app. This is breaking news.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – A new zoning amendment meant to tackle the housing shortage in Savannah has been approved by city council. Under the new rules, developers will be allowed to build multi-unit buildings in areas that are only zoned for smaller structures, as long as they agree to add in affordable housing.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – An innocent bystander was hit and killed during a high-speed police chase in Savannah last month, and Wednesday, his family hosted a memorial to celebrate his life. On what would have been Darren Lewis’ 61st birthday, his loved ones hosted a balloon release in his honor at the same intersection where he was killed. “These white balloons symbolize pure love, just pure love. A life, a legacy, of just love and affection,” Kathy Lewis, Darren Lewis’ wife, said.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – The City of Savannah is being sued for alleged failure to comply with open records requests related to public safety concerns at Housing Authority of Savannah properties. The complaint from the Mance law firm obtained by WSAV lists Savannah Mayor Van Johnson, the city’s alderman, and the city attorney as defendants in the case.
