    The Pflugerville police chief retired last week during an administrative investigation that involves him, officials said. "The City does not comment on active investigations," said a news release from the city. Jason O'Malley had served as chief for almost five years until he retired on May 29, the release said. The current acting police chief is Lt. Chet Vronka. O'Malley started as Pflugerville's police chief in September 2021. O'Malley could not be located for comment Monday.

    Two people died Monday morning in a house fire in East Austin, officials said. The Austin Fire Department has not released their names. The department was alerted at 1:21 a.m. and arrived to find the home in the 3000 block of Pecan Springs Road 75% involved in flames, said spokeswoman Tara Long. The flames were more than 30 feet high, she said. A man who had already gotten out of the home told firefighters there were still two people inside, Long said.

    The Williamson County sheriff's office is investigating a suspected murder-suicide, officials said Tuesday. Detectives think Alejandro Arzate Valdez, 54, of Georgetown killed his ex-girlfriend, 46-year-old Azucena Porcayo, on Monday before he fatally shot himself, according to a sheriff's news release. Authorities were alerted about a shooting at about 3 a.m. Monday at a house in the 7200 block of Texas 29 just outside the city limits of Georgetown, the release said.
