FEMA is ending a disaster mitigation program called BRIC, with millions of dollars in funding for Kentucky projects likely eliminated, officials said. The agency announced the program's end the same day a disaster declaration was announced for all 120 Kentucky counties for severe weather and flooding. Local officials said the funding cuts would impede Kentucky's ability to prepare for future disasters.

Grissom has previously served in executive roles in other local nonprofits, focusing on local investment and community engagement efforts. Olmsted is taking on the first expansion of its parks system in more than a century, one of the efforts Grissom will help shape in her new role.

Following intense rainfall, the Ohio River spilled into downtown Louisville, reaching the highest river level since 1997. The crest, falling just under 37 feet, is the eighth-highest on record for Louisville. While Louisville's levee system protects much of the city, some parts of Jefferson County were inundated this week as the Ohio River rose.

Several Kentucky counties broke three-day rainfall records during recent storms. Widespread river flooding is ongoing across Kentucky this week, as a number of waterways reached major flood stage. The first several days of April have already well surpassed Kentucky's average for the entire month. Following a succession of severe, tornado-spawning storms across Kentucky, several days of unyielding rainfall blanketed much of the state, breaking records and flooding towns.

Ten spill gates at Dix Dam were opened Friday evening amid heavy rainfall, which officials say was a planned release. A video circulated Sunday described an "accidental" release at the dam, spurring fears of additional flooding, before officials issued a correction. Flooding on the Kentucky River is ongoing, and some communities have evacuated.
