Laois TD Seán Fleming is set to lead oversight of Government plans to spend millions of euro of taxpayers' money building public infrastructure. The Fianna Fáil TD has announced that he is pleased to be appointed Chairperson of the Committee on Infrastructure & National Development Plan Delivery in the Oireachtas. It's a role that could put him in a position to lobby for the projects in Portlaoise, such as a new Portlaoise courthouse and prison expansion.

Portarlington needs more garda resources, insists Laois TD Brian Stanley, who says the Laois-Offaly town lacks community policing and a manned Garda Station to police criminality despite a rapid growth in population. With nearly €30 million being invested in Portlaoise Garda Station, the Laois Independent TD insists Garda management must allocate more resources to Portarlington which is the second biggest town in Laois and the Laois Offaly Garda Division.
