THE annual Easter Lily campaign – to commemorate those who died for Irish freedom – has been launched in Belfast City Hall. It is just the second time the event has been held in the civic building, following last year's historic first. The launch began with the singing of the national anthem, Amhrán na bhFiann, by Gerry McCabe, who also later performed 'Foggy Dew'. Sinn Féin councillor Áine McCabe then read the 1916 Proclamation before a pageant performance in honour of Countess Markievicz.

THE Andersonstown Road has re-opened following a road traffic collision on Wednesday morning. It happened near the junction with Dunmisk Park. The PSNI had urged motorists to avoid the area and seek alternative routes for your journey. Paul Maskey MP said: "Please avoid area and let the emergency services deal with this, please as there's a gas leak that's being repaired." A WEST Belfast woman will be remembered for having a "heart of gold" who left a "lasting mark on everyone lucky enough to know her." Bernadette (Bernie) Adams (66), late of Upper Dunmurry Lane passed peacefully at home following a long illness on Friday surrounded by her family. Her funeral took place on Tuesday at St Peter’s Cathedral followed by burial in Our Lady’s Cemetery, Hannahstown.

A MAN in his 30s has died following a fire at a block of flats in Lenadoon on Monday afternoon. Firefighters were called to reports of a flat fire in Carrigart Avenue at 12.27pm. The cause of the fire is believed to have been accidental. One appliance from Springfield Fire Station and two appliances from Cadogan Fire Station attended the incident. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property and used two hose reels and one jet to extinguish the fire.
