Man arrested on suspicion of two murders and attempted murder in north and West Belfast

A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of the two murders and another attempted murder. The 50 year-old was arrested following the search of a house in North Belfast on Tuesday. He remains in police custody. The arrest relates to the attempted murder of Sean O'Reilly in February and the murders of Danny McClean in 2021 and Jim Donegan in 2018. Sean O'Reilly (49) was shot as he sat inside a taxi in the Bell Steel Manor area of Poleglass on the morning of Sunday, February 23.
Victim of Lisburn traffic collision named as Ligoniel man Gabriel Johnston (22)

A MAN who died following a a road traffic collision in Lisburn last week has been named as Gabriel Johnston (22), from Ligoniel. Gabriel's funeral will take place on Friday at 11am at St Vincent de Paul Church in Ligoniel. Police received a report of a two vehicle road traffic collision involving a car and a lorry at Sheepwalk Road, at shortly after 5pm last Tuesday (May 6).

It comes as private and social tenants, political and community representatives come together to highlight the impact of evictions on individuals, their families and the wider community. A MAN who survived a deadly loyalist attack on a North Belfast bar 50 years ago, has spoken for the first time about the horrific events of that day. Denis McGowan (72) was in McLaughlin's Bar at the top of the New Lodge on Saturday, April 5 1975. A bomb exploded in the doorway without warning killing Kevin Kane and Michael Coyle and injuring 16 others. The device was thrown into the bar from a white Vauxhall Viva car which an eyewitness said sped into the Protestant Tiger Bay area.

It comes after a police officer was seriously injured during disorder on Monday evening on the Village side of Roden Street. A GP who dedicated much of his career to helping his patients in his West Belfast surgery will be remembered for his care and love towards them. Dr Basudeb Chakravarty (77) passed away suddenly at Musgrave Park Hospital on April 29 after suffering a stroke. Originally from India, Dr Chakravarty trained to become a doctor in New Delhi before coming to the North of Ireland in 1972 where he met his wife, Christina.
Man suffers facial injury protecting race hate victim on bus

A RACIST attack on a female passenger and an assault on a man who moved to protect her have been condemned. The bus was travelling through South Belfast from the Ormeau Road, taking in University Avenue, Botanic Avenue, Great Victoria Street, Bruce Street and Bedford Street on Sunday night. At around 8pm, it was reported to police that a female passenger was subjected to both racially-motivated verbal abuse, as well as being physically assaulted by a female and male on the bus.

Protective Mothers NI is a group protesting mums against what they call family court injustices in the North, advocating for mothers' rights with the aim of protecting children from the impact of court proceedings. The group claim the family court system is flawed with an abusive ex-partner prioritised over safety, while their voices are silenced.
