A man has appeared in court today charged with causing grievous bodily harm after a car ploughed into a crowd of Liverpool soccer fans injuring almost 80 during this week's Premier League title victory parade. Paul Doyle, from the West Derby area of Liverpool, is charged with seven offences including dangerous driving and two counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Gerry Adams has won his defamation case against the BBC. The former Sinn Fein leader and Louth TD had sued the broadcaster over an episode of its 'Spotlight' programme, and an online article, which claimed he sanctioned the killing of Denis Donaldson - a claim he denies. The jury in the trial found the BBC did not publish the claim in good faith, and it was not fair or reasonable to publish. Mr Adams will be awarded damages of €100,000. More to follow...

The jury in Gerry Adams' defamation case against the BBC continues its deliberations today. The former Sinn Féin leader and Louth TD is suing the broadcaster over a story on its 'Spotlight' programme, and an online article, in which an anonymous source claimed he sanctioned the killing of Denis Donaldson. The 76-year-old denies any involvement in the killing, while the BBC says the journalism was done in "good faith".

An application for an exemption from planning for a proposed IPAS centre at the Oaktree Business Park in Trim has been turned down by Meath County Council. Local Councillor Noel French made the announcement in a social media post this afternoon. A separate decision on a second separate application relating to a premises on Fairgreen in the town is due by June 10th.
