DETROIT LAKES — Wind surged on a sunny day at the Detroit Lakes tennis courts as the Lakers’ boys tennis team welcomed Central Lakes Conference rival Willmar to town. Detroit Lakes picked up their fifth win of the season as they handled the Cardinals 6-1. While both teams battled wind gusts over 35 miles per hour, the Lakers proved to be too much on their home courts. The Lakers improved their record to 5-13 on the season and boast a 3-3 record in the month of May.

PERHAM — Fans packed the stands at Tuffy Stadium for Baseball Across Minnesota Day as Perham put their undefeated streak to the test as they welcomed Anoka to town on Saturday, May 10. The Tornadoes swirled to a 3-1 victory over the Yellowjackets thanks to a lights-out performance from hurler Ethan Dufner and five errors committed by Perham. The Yellowjackets dropped to 11-1 on the season. Dufner tossed all seven innings and allowed one run on five hits.

PERHAM — The sun was shining at Arvig Park as the Perham softball team welcomed Detroit Lakes to town for the 2025 iteration of the Highway-10 rivalry game on Friday, May 9. The Yellowjackets persevered as they took down the Lakers 5-3 thanks to excellent pitching and defense in the seventh inning. Detroit Lakes had a number of chances to drive in runs but they couldn’t record a timely hit. Joslyn Griffin shut the door on the Lakers' comeback in the top of the seventh.

PERHAM — As the season has progressed, the Perham softball team has shown signs of improvement despite having only one victory in the win column. The Yellowjackets looked to pick up two more wins as they welcomed Heart O Lakes Conference rival Breckenridge to town for a doubleheader on Tuesday, May 6. Perham split the two games at Arvig Park.

Riding a six-game losing skid, the Lakers welcomed Central Lakes Conference rival Alexandria to Washington Ballpark for a doubleheader on Friday, May 2. The Cardinals put on a show as they outscored the Lakers 25-5 in both games. Alexandria defeated Detroit Lakes 11-1 in Game 1 and 14-4 in Game 2.
