DETROIT LAKES — The start to the 2025 campaign hasn’t been kind to the Detroit Lakes boys tennis team. The Lakers boasted a 1-3 record as they welcomed Central Lakes Conference foe Sartell to town on Tuesday, April 15. The Sabres swept the Lakers 7-0 with only one matchup lasting longer than two sets. Dropping to 1-4 on the season, Detroit Lakes head coach Zachary Biggar is looking for answers from his young team. “I feel like we didn’t do anything that amazingly today,” Biggar said.

DETROIT LAKES — Coming off of a rough season opener against Little Falls , the Detroit Lakes baseball team returned to action for its home opener against Thief River Falls for a doubleheader at the Detroit Lakes High School field on Friday, April 11. The Prowlers outmatched the Lakers 11-0 in five innings behind a strong outing from Logan Kriel in game one.

PERHAM — A new era of Perham boys tennis dawned as first-year head coach Nick Stokke made his debut with the Yellowjackets, welcoming Sauk Rapids-Rice to town for its season opener on Thursday, April 10. The chilly weather conditions affected both teams, but the Storm warmed up on the road to defeat the Yellowjackets 6-1 to blemish Stokke’s coaching debut. “I thought we played well and I’m very proud of the guys,” Stokke said.

DETROIT LAKES — The start to the new baseball season has been up and down for the Detroit Lakes Lakers due to the uncertainty of the weather conditions. Cold weather and snow forced the Lakers to adapt inside for most of the preseason. Detroit Lakes head coach Mark Gulseth returns for his second year after an underwhelming season a year ago. The Lakers finished with a 6-13 record, including a 1-7 record in Section 8AAA.

DETROIT LAKES — The Lakers Figure Skating Club wrapped up another outstanding season on March 8 at Kent Freeman Arena. The club’s numbers continue to increase, including doubling the size of competition skaters this year, to showcase each individual’s skills on the ice. Along with an uptick in members, Skating Director Jennifer Frank introduced scholarship opportunities thanks to fundraising money.
