DETROIT LAKES — Though he first started shooting photographs on a film camera back in the 1980s, it wasn't until he retired from a 40-year career as a Fargo educator that Lowell Wolff refocused on photography. "I spent 40 years with Fargo Public Schools, 25 of them as assistant superintendent," says Wolff, whose work is on display at the Detroit Lakes Public Library through the end of May.

DETROIT LAKES — It was a project that was about five years in the making — or several centuries, depending on your point of view. The new multi-tiered exhibit, "Becker County Natural History Preserved in a Peat Bog," opened this past Thursday, April 10, at the Becker County Museum in Detroit Lakes. It contains the bones of two bison that were unearthed from a real peat bog near Frazee more than five years ago, then donated to the museum.

VERGAS — Sunny skies and the promise of pancakes and sausage topped with pure maple syrup proved to be the siren call that a host of lakes area residents couldn't resist this past Saturday. Nearly 750 people picked up a plate of 'cakes and sausage from Vergas Lions and Commercial Club volunteers at the Event Center, then stayed to enjoy the many activities and business specials served up for the community's annual Maple Syrup Festival.

DETROIT LAKES — It all started, Luke Bergseth says, when his wife Rayna asked him to help her create a bench for their Detroit Lakes home. "There it is," says the man known professionally as "The Artistic Lumberjack," pointing to a low bench in the home's entryway. It was a project they worked on together. "By the time the staining and painting was done, I was hooked," Bergseth said.
