MMSD students earn 12 state championships at statewide and career technical competitions

MADISON, Wis. -- Students from three area Madison schools demonstrated their career readiness by earning top spots at the annual statewide career and technical student organization leadership conferences. MMSD students from Robert M. La Follette, Vel Phillips Memorial and West high schools earned 12 state championships and 48 national-level qualifications. West High alone accounted for more than 35 national qualifiers.
Increased Beltline enforcement results in 67 traffic stops

MADISON, Wis. -- Sixty-seven people were cited for not following traffic laws this week as part of heightened law enforcement on the Beltline. Two aerial law enforcement details were conducted on US 12/18 by the Wisconsin State Patrol, in collaboration with the Dane County Sheriff's Office, Madison Police Department, and Monona Police Department.
One dead, 2 seriously injured following head-on collision in Dodge County

ELBA, Wis. -- A Beaver Dam woman died Friday night after a head-on collision with another vehicle in the Town of Elba. An initial investigation showed a 2005 Toyota Rav4 was traveling southbound on US Highway 151 in the northbound lanes. It collided with a 2019 Toyota Corolla that was traveling northbound. After the collision, the Rav4 rolled several times. The driver of the Rav4 a 22-year-old Beaver Dam woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Dane County opioid settlement public hearing scheduled for April 28

MADISON, Wis. -- The Dane County Health and Human Needs Opioid Settlement Subcommittee will hold a public hearing on Monday, April 28 to address the allocation of current and future opioid settlement dollars. The events starts at 5:00 p.m. The hearing will be in a hybrid format, virtually and in room 357 of the City-County Building, 210 MLK Jr Blvd. In 2022 and 2023, the Dane County Board of Supervisors approved participation in two national opioid settlements.

Madison police investigate 2 separate burglaries at gas station

MADISON, Wis. -- Madison police are investigating two separate burglaries at a gas station that occurred on the city's far west side last week. Police reported the most recent burglary was reported around 8:30 a.m. in the 6700 block of Mineral Point Road on Tuesday when an employee arrived to find the store had been broken into overnight through forced entry. The first incident occurred around 2:35 a.m. on Friday. Police stated forced entry was also used to gain access to the building.
Madison police arrest man after chase on city's north side

MADISON, Wis. -- Madison police arrested a man Monday night following a chase on the city's north side. Officers attempted to pull the vehicle over along the 2400 block of Monterey Drive. Traffic spikes were deployed in the area and the vehicle became inaccessible. Police reported the arrested man has outstanding warrants and allegedly drove away from officers a few weeks ago. The driver exited the vehicle and allegedly began running through yards between N. Sherman Avenue and Superior Street.

Janesville police arrest convicted sex offender who removed GPS bracelet

JANESVILLE, Wis. -- Janesville police arrested a convicted sex offender for allegedly removing his GPS bracelet. Janesville police were requested to locate Bryan Kind, 39, who police said had been tampering with his GPS bracelet. Officers and a K9 were dispatched to the 600 block of N. Parker Drive where they found Kind hiding in tall grass. Police reported he attempted to run but was apprehended by K9 Viktos.
Madison police arrest driver in rollover crash

MADISON, Wis. -- Madison police arrested a man Saturday night for his alleged role in a rollover crash. Officers were dispatched eastbound Highway 12 near Rimrock Road around 6:40 p.m. where witnesses reported seeing two vehicles speeding and weaving through traffic. Police reported one of the vehicles, a red sedan and lost control and rear-ended an uninvolved SUV. The SUV rolled over as a result of the crash. Two adults were able to get out of the car safely and two children were trapped inside.
