A Memphis Area Transit Authority employee has been suspended for allegedly using a company credit card for personal expenses. Purchases flagged as potentially inappropriate include items from Best Buy, Amazon, spas and Ticketmaster. A Memphis Area Transit Authority employee has been placed on leave after allegedly using MATA funds for spa visits and other non-work expenses, interim CEO John Lewis said during a meeting Friday.

Dr. Aisha Galadanci Akilu, a hematologist focusing on sickle cell disease, is in the process of earning a PhD in health outcomes and policy research at UTHSC. Research she has done in Memphis has already made a difference in her hometown of Kano, Nigeria.

Election season is upon us, Shelby County. The big ticket race is the presidential election, pitting Vice President Kamala Harris against former President Donald J. Trump. However, local voters will have many other races to decide this fall. A Tennessee U.S. Senate seat is up for grabs, as are U.S. Congress seats, which come up every two years. Shelby County voters also will vote on state senate and house races.
