A teenager accused of the fatal stabbing of a 15-year-old boy has said he was "sorry" for causing his death, but added he had not meant to kill him. The teenager, who was 14 at the time, told Leeds Crown Court on Monday he had only wanted to "scare away" Alfie Lewis with a knife, "not inflict any pain". Alfie was attacked on Church Road in Horsforth, Leeds, last November and died later in hospital. The defendant, who cannot be named due to his age, denies Alfie's murder.

A headteacher who witnessed the fatal stabbing of a 15-year-old boy has told a court how the teenager collapsed and "fell face first onto the pavement". Alfie Lewis was attacked on Church Road in Horsforth, Leeds, last November and died later in hospital. Ryan Vincent, 22, from Skelton, died after he was pinned to the floor at Primrose Valley, Filey, on 22 May 2017. Tony Walpole told Northallerton Coroner's Court he assumed Mr Vincent was OK as he did not think sitting on him would cause injury. Witnesses previously told the hearing he had said he could not breathe.

The funeral has taken place of a 15-year-old boy who was fatally stabbed in Leeds last month. Friends and family gathered to remember Alfie Lewis, who was stabbed near St Margaret's Primary School in Horsforth on 7 November. A 14-year-old boy has been charged with his murder. Speaking before the funeral, Rev Nigel Sinclair said Alfie's friends and family wanted a service that "reflected his life and was accessible to all".
