    MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Fred Smith, founder and executive chairman of FedEx Corporation, has died. Smith died on Saturday, sources confirmed to WREG. He was 80 years old. Smith was born in Marks, Mississippi, in 1944 and earned his degree from Yale in 1966. After four years of service in the United States Marine Corps, Smith launched FedEx operations in 1973. FedEx is headquartered in Memphis. FedEx would go on to become a multi-billion-dollar corporation that serves more than 200 countries.

    MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Political leaders who represent the Mid-South are responding after President Donald Trump announced the bombing of three nuclear sites in Iran. On Saturday evening, Trump announced that the United States had completed a “very successful attack” on the Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan nuclear sites in Iran. Trump claimed that a “payload of bombs” was dropped on Fordow. Soon after the announcement, leaders from the Mid-South began releasing statements on the attack.

    MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Several lanes of traffic on I-40 are blocked after an 18-wheeler overturned on Friday evening. First responders were called to the scene on I-40 west of Chamber Chapel Road at around 5:25 p.m. on Friday. According to TDOT, the eastbound right lane and right shoulder are blocked at this time. There is no word on whether any injuries were reported.

    MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis judge has ruled that Memphis Police officers with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant must be demoted. The matter was heard in a hearing in Shelby County Circuit Court on Friday morning. Circuit Court Division Eight Judge Damita Dandridge ruled that those in the rank of the 2nd Lieutenant will have to be demoted while the City of Memphis and the Memphis Police Association determine how to create a first-line supervisor role. Around 130 officers will be affected by the ruling.
