    Traditional games, stalls and fine weather helped a primary school turn its 150th anniversary celebrations into a highly successful fundraiser. Kenninghall Primary School held a fete on May 18, with visitors trying their luck at a host of games, including tug of war, welly wanging, beat the goalie and hook a duck. The event raised £2,200 for the school, which will go toward the cost of covering school trips for the children through the year.

    A small, but hardy, group of Vikings resurfaced in a small area of south Norfolk, as pub-goers were treated to a taste of history. The spectacle, which was put on by re-enactment group Jormungandr Austr, took place in the grounds of The Dove Inn in Alburgh on May 18. It included a Viking camp, archery, axe throwing and a combat demonstration. Landlady Sonya Remblance said the event was a big success.

    A reservoir could be constructed as part of a wide-ranging application to increase operations at a poultry processing factory in Eye. Cranswick Country Foods wants to expand its plant at Eye Airfield by 31,000 square metres, while building a reservoir, pumping station and associated piping on land north of Brome and Oakley. If approved, the expanded factory would almost double the site’s total water consumption from 1,600 cubic metres per day to 3,500m³.

    Care home residents in Eye have taken a trip down memory lane in a bid to save traditional recipes from being forgotten. After an old cook book was discovered at Hartismere Place, memories of favourite dishes from years ago became a hot topic of conversation. To ensure family recipes passed down through generations were not lost forever, sous chef John Shead got to work compiling the care home’s very own cook book. Among the featured recipes is 96-year-old Edna Hicks’ French onion soup.
