THE head of RTE has reached out to the European Broadcasting Union to ask "for a discussion on Israel's inclusion" in the Eurovision Song Contest. The move comes after journalists in the NUJ branch of RTE called on the national broadcaster to file an objection against Israeli participation in the competition, which is due to take place next week. They sent a letter to RTE's Director General Kevin Bakhurst calling on the broadcaster to formally oppose the country’s inclusion in the annual contest.

A WOMAN has died after a horror road crash between a car and truck in Kilkenny this morning. The fatal collision occurred on the main N25 road near Gaulstown, Glenmore, Co Kilkenny. Gardai and emergency services raced to the scene after the alarm was raised about a collision involving a truck and a car. The driver of the car, a woman in her 50s, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. Her body was removed from the scene to the mortuary where a post-mortem examination will take place.

A WOMAN has died after being hit by a lorry in Mayo this morning. The fatal collision happened on Rathbawn Road in Castlebar, Co Mayo at approximately 9:55am. Gardai and emergency services raced to the scene after the alarm was raised about an incident involving a pedestrian and a lorry. Upon arrival they found a woman, aged her 60s, who was sadly later pronounced dead at the scene by medics. The driver of the lorry has been taken to hospital for treatment.

The scene has been forensically examined and remains preserved. A MAN in his 60s has been rushed to hospital after being the victim of a serious assault at a flat in Dublin this afternoon. The shock attack took place at noon at a residential property on Basin Street, Dublin 8, today. Gardai and emergency services raced to the scene after receiving a report that an unresponsive man was found within a flat at the Old Convent on Basin Street.

A WOMAN has died after a horror three-car crash in Waterford. The fatal smash took place on the N25, at Moonameen, Co Waterford, this afternoon. Gardai and emergency services raced the scene of the collision at approximately 2.10pm after the alarm was raised. Upon arrival at the scene 60-year-old female passenger of one of the cars was sadly pronounced dead. Her body was removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Waterford where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.
