The Department of Work and Pensions has announced that Cold Weather Payments will be extended to an additional 160 postcode areas. This means that some households are receiving their third payment this winter due to the persistently low temperatures. The new payments will cover regions including the Home Counties, Norfolk, Essex, Kent, and almost down to the South Coast in Sussex. Approximately 170,000 low-income households will receive a £25 contribution towards their heating costs.

Millions of people across England are eligible for Cold Weather Payments during the winter. As temperatures dip below freezing across the country, households will be looking out for updates on the payments by the DWP which help people with heating bills during cold snaps. During the winter of 2024/25, the payments have already been made in a number of postcode areas. Each received a £25 payment towards the extra cost of heating their homes during the current cold snap.

The DWP has triggered new Cold Weather Payments for people living in 51 postcode areas, it was announced today (Thursday). Around 95,000 eligible households in these regions will receive a £25 payment towards the extra cost of heating their homes during the current cold snap. The new payments will cover 45 postcode areas around West Yorkshire. Eligible households in another six postcode districts in North Yorkshire and County Durham will also receive the payments.
