The newsreader received much praise after correcting the term "pregnant people" to "women".     New data has revealed where Leicestershire's most dangerous drivers are - and it makes poor reading for motorists in the city. The figures come as reports of dangerous driving surged by eight per cent in the past year. The Home Office data reveals that police in England and Wales logged more than 6,200 crime reports of dangerous driving in 2024. This includes 64 such offences in Leicestershire, 12 of which caused a death or serious injury.

    More people are mugged or carjacked in parts of Leicester city centre than anywhere else in the East Midlands. New data has also revealed the number of people who are threatened and forced to hand over their mobile phones by robbers. The data, revealed by the Reach Data Unit, shows that last year Leicestershire Police recorded 863 crimes of robbery.

    An urgent search has been launched to find a missing Leicestershire man. Barrie Young has not been seen for more than 24 hours. The 71-year-old was reported missing today (Friday, May 30) after last being seen at his home in Sileby yesterday lunchtime (Thursday, 29). Officers from Leicestershire Police said Mr Young left his home address in his car, a blue Ford Fiesta. Police and Barrie's family are concerned for his welfare and have turned to the public for help in tracing him.

    A murder investigation has been launched after a woman died in a Leicestershire street. One arrest has been made in connection with the incident. Officers from Leicestershire Police were called to Biddle Road in Littlethorpe at around 9.25pm on Sunday (May 11). Police said a woman was found injured in the street and was later pronounced deceased at the scene. A 39-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody, according to police.
