SHELBY — Ellie Dawson belted a solo home run in the fifth and doubled and scored in the sixth as Ontario rallied for a 9-5 Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference win Wednesday at Shelby. The Warriors (15-6, 10-3) trailed 5-4 after three innings, but took the lead for good with a four-run fifth. Dawson led off the frame with a homer to left to tie it at 5-5. Maddie Mullins and Piper Studer had run-scoring singles in the frame.

SHELBY — Travis Slone fired a five-inning no-hitter and Shelby cruised to a run rule-shortened 11-0 win over Ontario in Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference action Wednesday at Shelby. A left-hander, Slone walked one and struck out four. He threw 66 pitches, 41 for strikes. (The photos below were shot by Tom Theodore) The Whippets (11-9, 4-7) gave Slone all the support he would need in the home half of the first, scoring a pair of runs.

MANSFIELD — An important piece of the city’s storied baseball history has been resurrected. For the first time in decades, the crack of the bat can be heard echoing through Liberty Park. The Madison Local School District middle school teams moved into their new home ballpark a few weeks ago. Mansfield Mayor Jodie Perry was on hand to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at a field that began hosting Industrial League games in the mid-1930s.

HOWARD - The Bulldogs are on the move. The Ohio High School Athletic Association released its divisional and regional alignments for the 2025 football season Thursday and the biggest news among Knox County schools is East Knox will drop to Division VI and slot into Region 23. The Bulldogs were in Division V last year. East Knox was 4-6 and finished 19th in Region 18.

ONTARIO — The tournament trail got a little rockier for the Warriors. The Ohio High School Athletic Association released its divisional and regional alignments for the 2025 football season Thursday and the biggest local storyline involves Ontario. The Warriors will move up to Division III after reaching the Division IV, Region 14 championship game last fall. Ontario reported a male enrollment of 241 boys in grades nine through 11 as of October 2023.
