ASHLAND — Chase Carter is making the most of his senior season. A 2021 Lexington High School graduate, Carter has emerged as the closer of Ashland University’s ultra-successful baseball team. The Eagles are 23-8 after a four-game Great Midwest Athletic Conference sweep of Findlay over the weekend. A hard-throwing right-hander, Carter is 3-1 with six saves and a 0.38 earned run average in 14 appearances. He has struck out 24 in 24 innings of work.
Ontario's Bodpegn Miller finding his footing at Ohio State

COLUMBUS — If playing football at Ohio State was easy, everyone would be a Buckeye. Former Ontario High School star Bodpegn Miller is finding out just how difficult it is this spring. An early-enrollee, Miller is in the midst of his first spring practice with the Buckeyes. The quarterback-turned-receiver is competing with and against some of the best collegiate players in the country as he learns a new position.

LEXINGTON — Ian Fraley’s motorcycle racing career has shifted into high gear. A Lexington eighth-grader, Fraley is racing for Real Steel Honda Racing on the MotoAmerica Parts Unlimited Talent Cup by Motul. Fraley is the youngest competitor on the series, which is open to racers 14 to 21 years of age. He turned 14 on Jan. 26.
East Knox product Melick starring for Muskies

Weston Melick is putting the finishing touches on a spectacular college baseball career. A 2021 East Knox graduate, Melick is a senior first baseman at Muskingum University. The Division III Muskies are 18-6 and were receiving votes in the most recent Division III weekly top 25. Melick is batting .385 with three home runs and 27 runs batted in. Of his 35 hits, 15 have gone for extra bases. He ranks sixth in the Ohio Athletic Conference in batting average.
Lucas embraces move to Northern 10 Athletic Conference

For Lucas, the move to the Northern 10 Athletic Conference was a no-brainer. The Cubs will join the N10 for the 2026-27 school year, much to athletic director Taylor Iceman’s delight. His tenure as AD has been a logistical nightmare since taking the job in the summer of 2019. “We’ve been looking for anything and everything for the past handful of years,” Iceman said.

The merry-go-round is spinning once again. The Lucas school board voted unanimously earlier this month to accept an invitation to join the Northern 10 Athletic Conference beginning in the fall of 2026. The move will end Lucas’ on-again, off-again affiliation with the Mid-Buckeye Conference. The school’s current 12-year relationship with the MBC has been tenuous at best, largely because the league doesn’t support a football championship.
Mansfield Senior's Roane caps career with first-team All-Ohio honors

MANSFIELD — Any questions about Kyevi Roane’s place in Mansfield Senior basketball history were answered Thursday. Roane was selected to the All-Ohio first team in Division III when the Division I-III teams were unveiled. It was the senior’s third All-Ohio citation after earning honorable mention honors in Division II in 2023 and 2024. The 6-foot-1 senior is just the fourth Senior High luminary to earn first-team honors since 2000.

COLUMBUS — Brayden DeVito’s transition from supporting role to leading actor was a resounding success. DeVito, Shelby’s junior point guard, was selected to the Division IV first team when the Division IV-VII All-Ohio boys basketball teams were released Wednesday afternoon. A two-time All-Ohio first-teamer in football, DeVito spent his first two varsity basketball seasons in the shadows.
Ashland's Holt, a Crestview grad, tabbed Ohio's Division III Coach of the Year

COLUMBUS — She was one of the greatest players in north central Ohio girls basketball history and Ashland’s Renee Holt is a rising star in coaching circles, too. Holt was selected the Division III Coach of the Year when the Division I-III All-Ohio teams were announced Tuesday. Ashland (20-6) won its first Ohio Cardinal Conference championship and reached the Sweet 16 for the first time since 1979. The Arrows did it with a roster that included just three seniors.
