    Editor:The Brown County Democrat dated June 25 included a synopsis of the Commissioner’s meeting of June 18 including a report by the Highway Department Superintendent, Arec Burton. Brown County has a county appointed Highway Superintendent in place to organize and manage the road construction/repair crews, maintain equipment, decide work schedules, etc. But, for some reason one of the commissioners has decided he could do the job better.

    Brown County Kids Place (BCKP), a new program directed by Brown County Guardian ad Litem Director Sallyann Murphey, offers visit supervision in a family-friendly environment providing a chance for children to relax safely with non-custodial parents. The facility is located at 103 Willow St., Suite F, Nashville, next to the Brown County YMCA. BCKP will not only service families in Brown County but also Monroe, Bartholomew, Jackson, Morgan and Johnson counties, as well.

    The State Budget Committee, Wednesday, June 18, approved funding that will allow for repairs to be made to Horsemen’s Camp in Brown County State Park said State Sen. Eric Koch (R-Bedford) and State Rep. Dave Hall (R-Norman). Horsemen’s Camp sustained devastating damage after a tornado hit the area on May 16. Before the tornado, the area allowed people to bring horses to the park to ride the trails, provided tie-ups for the horses and other amenities.

    The Art Walk is back for another year, but instead of the first Fridays they are now scheduled for the second Saturdays of July-October. In addition to the self-guided tours, the Art Walk will include guided tours this year as well as more stops and shops, galleries and public art in Nashville.
