OVERLAND — Police on Tuesday issued an alert for a missing woman and her 1-year-old child. Miranda Burnett was supposed to drop her daughter off with a family member Monday afternoon but never arrived, said the Missouri Highway Patrol. The 31-year-old woman's texts have authorities concerned she may harm herself, police said. They are also worried about the safety of the child, Harlow Rae Burnett, who they believe is with her. Police said Burnett is 5'9" and 125 pounds.

LOUIS — The former McCluer North High football coach who officials say hijacked a small plane in Belize, stabbing two passengers and a pilot, had also worked as a teacher at Hazelwood Central High School and owned a house in Overland. Akinyela Taylor, who was shot and killed by one of the men he stabbed, worked at Hazelwood Central for two school years.

CLAYTON — A jury this week found a man guilty in the shooting death of his former boss over money. Rodney Collins, 35, was convicted of first-degree murder, tampering with physical evidence, two counts of stealing and armed criminal action. The murder charge carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison without parole. Collins was charged in September 2023 with murdering 43-year-old William Gholson.

O'FALLON, Mo. — A mother here will serve 15 years for the overdose death of her 8-month-old daughter. Valerie M. Shelley on Monday pleaded guilty to one count of endangering the welfare of a child resulting in death. She was charged in February 2023 when police were called to a home in the 300 block of Narrowleaf Lane in O'Fallon and found the baby, Aaliyah Denson-Shelley, unresponsive. Medics revived her, but she died two days later.

CLAYTON — The family of a woman who died in widespread flooding this fall is suing St. Louis County, alleging the bridge she drove off was poorly marked. The suit, filed by the siblings of Nancy Parisotto, says the government and its contractors did not use barriers and other traffic control devices to warn eastbound drivers that the lanes had been demolished and that traffic was being diverted to the westbound lanes.
