OVIEDO, Fla. - An Oviedo police officer was killed Friday evening in a single-vehicle crash in the Lake Nona area of Orlando, authorities said. Officer Jimmy Serrano-Torres III, 36, died from his injuries at the scene, the city of Oviedo said Monday in a statement. On March 27, 2025, at approximately 4:49 p.m., Kathan Guzman was released in error from the Clayton County Jail. The cause of the release is under investigation, and disciplinary actions are pending.

21 trapped horses die in massive Florida barn fire

REDDICK, Fla. - Twenty-one horses were killed early Tuesday when a Reddick barn caught fire, causing the roof to collapse, officials said. The fire broke out around 3:30 a.m. in the 6000 block of Northwest 118th Street. According to Marion County Fire Rescue, a 911 caller reported that the barn was ablaze and horses were trapped inside. Firefighters arrived at 4:13 a.m. and found the 10,000-square-foot single-story barn engulfed in flames.

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. - A 21-year-old DeLand man was killed Monday night when his motorcycle crashed into the back of a tow truck on Interstate 4 in Volusia County, the Florida Highway Patrol said. The fatal wreck happened around 8:15 p.m. on I-4 west at mile marker 119 near State Road 44. The FHP said the DeLand man was riding his motorcycle west on I-4 when he changed lanes, failed to observe a tow truck ahead of him and struck the back of it.

RIDGE MANOR, Fla. - A teenage girl was found dead Thursday morning near Cypress Lake Preserve in Hernando County, and a 16-year-old boy has been arrested, sheriff's officials said. The girl's body was found around 9:35 a.m. by a passerby off Ridge Manor Boulevard in Ridge Manor, about 15 miles south of Sumter County.
