BEACHWOOD, Ohio — On National Cancer Survivors Day, The Gathering Place raised nearly $350,000 at its 25th annual Race for the Place in Beachwood Sunday morning. About 2,700 people took part in the 5K and 1-mile walk, raising close to $340,000 for The Gathering Place, which provides free cancer support services to people impacted by cancer in Northeast Ohio. The Gathering Place is celebrating 25 years of service in Northeast Ohio this year.

CLEVELAND — The trial of suspended East Cleveland Mayor Brandon King resumed Wednesday with more witness testimony and tense courtroom moments, as prosecutors continue laying out their case against the embattled city leader. King faces a dozen felony and misdemeanor charges, including theft in office and having an unlawful interest in a public contract. He’s accused of funneling more than $75,000 in city funds to companies tied to his family, among other things.

NORTHFIELD, Ohio — A bill that would ban student cellphone use in Ohio's public schools took a step forward Monday, clearing the State Senate Education Committee. Senate Bill 158, sponsored by state Sen. Jane Timken (R-Canton), goes beyond a law signed by Gov. Mike DeWine last year. That legislation, known as House Bill 250, required districts to create policies limiting student phone use during instructional hours by July 2025. The new legislation would prohibit it entirely, with a few exceptions.

College Now Greater Cleveland confirmed the cuts have led to the termination of its AmeriCorps College and Career Guides Program, a service that placed guides primarily in middle and high schools to help students explore college and career pathways.
