Prussian Monna Lisa at speed. Image: Prysmian Fresh from its christening ceremony in Finland the state of the art new cable ship Prysmian Monna Lisa (PML) was expected to berth at the docks in Falmouth yesterday (Wednesday) to discharge equipment. The naming ceremony took place at Prysmian’s Pikkala facility in Finland, recently upgraded through a €200 million investment aimed at increasing production capacity for high-voltage submarine cables.

Billionaire recluse John Paul Getty bought Talitha after she had been laid up in the River Fal and had her restored at Devonport under Australian designer Jon Bannenberg’s guidance in 1993.

She is berthing for a Cornwall cruise call as part of her Hamburg to Hamburg round trip of her ‘Round Britain' cruise. Falmouth pilot Captain Nick Gilbert is the duty pilot today. With the advances in ship propulsion, azipods, powerful bow and stern thrusters manoeuvring ships of this size and larger is made a great deal easier, although available space and turning circles in the inner harbour is soon swallowed up by these large vessels. AIDAluna is expected to sail at 1700.
