48 1/1 A golden glow shone over the Evening Dance on Flora Day, when the first dancers of the day returned to finish off the event in style. The warm evening sunshine kept the crowds in Helston for the start of the dance at 5pm. It was led by the same four dancers as the Morning Dance, first leads Ben Head and Natalie Bunt, followed by Ben Autie and Caroline Spencer as second leads.

48 1/1 Amongst all the festivities on Flora Day is an event that has its origins actually go back even further than the dancing. The Hal-an-Tow is filled with music and noise, to ward away bad spirits and the darkness of winter. There is some suggestion the tunes goes back as far as the 1600s, although the first earliest record of it is from 1802, in Edward Jones's 1802 account of Flora Day.

57 1/1 At the heart of every Flora Day are a group of musicians without whom the day would simply not go ahead: Helston Town Band. Together with members of Helston Flora Day Association, the band play a vital role in putting on the event. Just as Association members dedicate hours of their free time in the run up to Flora Day, band members are busy practising and training up the younger players.
