With Good Friday almost upon us, thoughts in Cornwall are turning to an annual tradition in Cornwall known as ‘trigging’. Each year crowds descend on Cornish riverbeds to dig for cockles on Good Friday - the only day of the year they are allowed to do it. The Helford River is a particularly popular spot, with the estuary around Helford and St Anthony a particularly popular location on the Lizard Peninsula, while Helford Passage is a favourite on the Falmouth side.

4 1/1 The restaurant at a boutique hotel in West Cornwall has reopened after a £250,000 kitchen refurbishment. The six-week closure allowed a new kitchen to be installed at The Gannet, with the kitchen area reconfigured in the process. New facilities, designed and installed by Nelson Bespoke Commercial Kitchens, include a custom-made cooking suite, while the reconfigured kitchen now incorporates a large open pass so that diners can see the chefs at work.

This weekend’s Spring Masked Ball has been cancelled The organisers of this weekend’s Spring Masked Ball have announced this evening that the event has been cancelled. Describing themselves as “absolutely gutted”, the team said that that ticket sales were too low to ahead and “we can’t with a clear conscience let you turn up to an event that's not everything we want it to be.” Everyone with tickets has been promised a refund.

Brenda Pedley from Redruth spent the past two decades raising more than £200,000 for Cancer Research UK, even while undergoing treatment for her own breast cancer diagnosis.
