Gov. Pat McCrory said Thursday he will sign the North Carolina state budget bill negotiated by fellow Republicans at the legislature this summer when it reaches his desk. "For the third straight year, we’ve gotten about 90 percent of the common sense solutions we’re recommending past by the legislature. Because of that, I will sign it," McCrory told reporters.

North Carolina's newest member of Congress is officially starting her job. Republican Second District Congresswoman Renee Ellmers was sworn in to office Wednesday afternoon. Supporters were expected to hold a reception in her honor at a Washington hotel. Ellmers ousted seven-term Democratic Congressman Bob Etheridge on the promise of lowering government spending. She joins dozens of other GOP freshmen swept into office in November.

Plans for Friday's service took shape in the years after his last crusade in 2005 as he huddled with confidants and loved ones in his North Carolina mountain home. Musicians who had shared Graham's stage would sing. Some of the best preachers Graham knew – his own children – would deliver personal messages.
