A driver with First York will be remembered for his sense of humour and zest for life by the company naming a bus after him. Kevin Hagan died after a short illness. He was only in his early 50s and leaves behind many friends. He will also be missed by the countless passengers he met on his bus routes around York. Tom Donnelly, First’s operations manager in York, said: “All of us here at First York are saddened by the passing of Kevin Hagan.

A woman from Ukraine, who now lives in York, says this weekend she was thinking not about two years of war, but ten. She says ever since Russian action on the Crimean Peninsula, part of Ukraine, in 2014 her life has been on hold. Kateryna Minakova comes from Dnipro, which she says used to be central Ukraine but is now more in the east of the country given the Russian occupation.

Open Access Train Operator, Hull Trains, is now running more carriages on its route from Hull and Selby to London. It has extended 10 carriage trains on a number of its services from Wednesday to Sunday bringing an extra 4,000 seats per week. Introducing this extra capacity, especially on a Sunday, has been an aspiration of the operator for some time now and it says it is delighted to finally be able to launch these longer trains. They are run by joining two 5 car Paragons together.

Two years ago, Fahim and Ajjaz were playing cricket for hours every day in the dusty backstreets and mountains of Afghanistan, fashioning a bat out of a tree branch and using a ball made from rolled-up socks. Never did the talented duo ever imagine playing their much-loved sport overseas and making a name for themselves in the North Yorkshire cricketing community.

The MP for Sherburn-in-Elmet has taken concerns about a crime wave in the town to Westminster and says he will now work to find out the true extent of the crisis. Selby and Ainsty MP, Keir Mather, says without a manned police station and with stretched resources, residents don’t feel secure in their own community or their homes. Cars have been stolen from driveways and homes have been broken into. Penny Mordaunt, the leader of the House of Commons, responded to his concerns.
