ELMHURST, IL – The Elmhurst City Council nearly always goes with the zoning recommendations of the Plan Commission, which is the city's fact-finding panel in such cases. At this week's council meeting, aldermen were told that the council has agreed with more than 90 percent of the lower panel's recommendations over the last dozen years. Mayor Scott Levin noted that a commission majority advised against allowing the sober home. After that recommendation, he said the council received more guidance.

ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst may join a growing list of towns that are keeping the 1 percent grocery tax. Last year, Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed legislation doing away with the statewide 1 percent sales tax on groceries and drugs as of Jan. 1, 2026. The state has long distributed all the money to the towns where the tax is generated. Under the new law, towns can decide to keep it.

DARIEN, IL – In the last few days, Darien police handled cases involving domestic battery, DUI, theft and damage. Here is information from the latest Darien police reports: A 50-year-old Darien woman who lives in the 7500 block of Farmingdale Drive was arrested about 11:30 p.m. June 12 on two counts of domestic battery. She was taken to the DuPage Jail. A 37-year-old Darien woman who lives in the 7700 block of Cass Avenue was arrested about 7 p.m. Tuesday at her home on a domestic battery charge.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving road rage, damage at the hospital, domestic disturbances, a possible dispute over a dog, burglary and a suspicious person. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports: A 40-year-old Elmhurst man who lives in the 400 block of South West Avenue was arrested about 9:30 p.m. Monday at York Street and Butterfield Road on a disorderly conduct charge.
