By David HaughIrish Sports Report1991 NDFB Indiana Final StatsIt had all the trappings of a typical first date. Big moments. Peak anxiety. Loads of perspiration. Hints of embarrassment. High expectations of the next encounter. An opening-day 49-27 thumping of Indiana on a sweltering September afternoon did provide some fairly accurate compass points. The Irish will continue to rely significantly on the running game, after piling up 327 rushing yards against the Hoosiers.

(670 The Score) Of all the letdowns in a Bears season defined by disappointment, perhaps the biggest one was exposed Sunday in Santa Clara, Calif. Their defense stinks. What the Bears have always counted on most provided the least. Once considered capable of being a top-five unit in the NFL, the Bears defense now risks finishing the season as one of the most overrated in the league.

CHICAGO (670 The Score) - For the third time this season, the Bears did what they so uniquely do. They lost a football game Sunday on the final play, a 30-27 stunner to the Vikings at Soldier Field, which ripped fans' hearts through their throats by redefining agony and reminding us all how many ways they can find to lose. The Bears somehow rallied from a 27-16 deficit with 1:47 to go and forced overtime, only to succumb to Parker Romo's 26-yard walk-off field goal.

CHICAGO (670 The Score) - At long last, Caleb Williams had done it. With three straight completions on the final drive Sunday at Soldier Field, the Bears rookie quarterback did essentially what he was drafted to do: put his team in position to beat the Packers. The dreaded, awful, trash-talking, cheese-loving, make-them-green-with-envy Packers. That's where everything starts at Halas Hall, mind you. Ask any McCaskey. Ask any Grabowski.

(670 The Score) How do you describe the indescribable? Or explain the inexplicable? How do you find the right words - or any words really - after the Bears lost 18-15 to the Washington Commanders on a 52-yard Hail Mary touchdown pass to Noah Brown that provided the NFL highlight of the season ... and Chicago's lowlight of the fall? What do you say after that? Nothing printable. Nothing logical. Nothing rational.
