Newly elected St. Charles School District 303 School Board members were sworn in and held their first meeting on Monday. Two new board members, Kimberly Rich and Jenna Hancock, and incumbents Heidi Fairgrieve and Kate Bell were sworn in by St. Charles Mayor Clint Hull at the May 12 meeting. Each newly elected member will serve a four-year term. Former board president Thomas Lentz was the only incumbent candidate in the April election not reelected. Ed McNally also departed the board Monday.

Two women rescued from Fox River in Geneva after falling from kayaks

Two women who were kayaking in the Fox River Sunday May 11, had to be rescued by members of Geneva police and fire departments. While details of when and where they began their adventure, the women fell out of their kayaks into the river near the 800 block of N. Bennett St. (Route 25), according to a news release from the city. The fire department was dispatched at 10:43 p.m. for a river rescue, with reports of bystanders hearing screams coming from the river, according to the release.
Future St. Charles Whole Foods, pickleball facility get liquor licenses

Two highly anticipated St. Charles developments checked another approval off their lists, as each was granted a liquor license. At former Mayor Lora Vitek’s final City Council meeting on May 5, the council approved a laundry list of routine matters in the omnibus vote without discussion. Among the approved items were two separate liquor licenses for While Foods Market and Montauk Pickleball Club.

St. Charles North High School senior Finn Mulcahy, 17, recently scored a perfect 36 on his ACT, an accomplishment achieved by less than .2% of more than 1.3 million test-takers each year. Finn took the ACT twice. The first time he scored a 32, and while he wasn’t eager to take it again, he said he did so mainly because his parents insisted. “I was nervous for the first time,” Mulcahy said. “I didn’t get a lot of sleep that night.

Newly elected St. Charles City Clerk will not take post

St. Charles City Clerk-elect Susan Hanson will not take office after winning an uncontested race in the April 1 election. Hanson ran unopposed. Former clerk Nancy Garrison did not run for reelection. Since the election, Hanson moved outside of St. Charles city limits. While she has not formally withdrawn her candidacy, she will not assume the role, according to a news release from the city. All other officials elected in the April election were sworn in at a May 5 City Council meeting.
