Newly elected St. Charles School District 303 School Board members were sworn in and held their first meeting on Monday. Two new board members, Kimberly Rich and Jenna Hancock, and incumbents Heidi Fairgrieve and Kate Bell were sworn in by St. Charles Mayor Clint Hull at the May 12 meeting. Each newly elected member will serve a four-year term. Former board president Thomas Lentz was the only incumbent candidate in the April election not reelected. Ed McNally also departed the board Monday.

Two women who were kayaking in the Fox River Sunday May 11, had to be rescued by members of Geneva police and fire departments. While details of when and where they began their adventure, the women fell out of their kayaks into the river near the 800 block of N. Bennett St. (Route 25), according to a news release from the city. The fire department was dispatched at 10:43 p.m. for a river rescue, with reports of bystanders hearing screams coming from the river, according to the release.

At former Mayor Lora Vitek’s final City Council meeting on May 5, the council approved a laundry list of routine matters in the omnibus vote without discussion. Among the approved items were two separate liquor licenses for While Foods Market and Montauk Pickleball Club.
