Keeping aviation history alive is at the heart of the Air Classics Museum at the Aurora Municipal Airport, museum officials said. The facility, located at the airport at 44W546 Route 30 in Sugar Grove, is home to a collection of aircraft, vehicles, uniforms and other aviation memorabilia from the 1930s to the present time, according to museum officials.

Kumba’s African Market opened recently at the Boardwalk Shops in downtown Batavia, offering a selection of African clothing, home decor, food and more. The shop is run by Teta Porter, 44, of Plainfield, who also operates a brick-and-mortar store in Wheaton known as the African Continental Market which opened eight years ago. A West African refugee who came to the United States more than two decades ago, Porter said she wanted to come to Batavia in hopes of expanding her business.

Kathy Evans of North Aurora knew Saturday’s heat was something she’d have to deal with, but was hoping a visit to Riverfront Park in her hometown would help make things a little more bearable. The fact there was an art show going on there didn’t hurt. “It is hot and the breeze off the river is nice,” she said at the Creativity at the Crossroads event at the park. “I go to four or five events like this each year. Geneva resident Heidi Cristina likes coming to Swedish Days in the city, bringing her daughter Kendall, 8, on Saturday morning to the ongoing festival along with some of Kendall’s friends. “It’s such a community atmosphere,” she said. “There’s something to do the whole day through from morning till night. We came down here last night and were here yesterday riding the rides.

Those who have visited New Orleans or have a hankering for southern flavors may find what they are looking for at a new restaurant in downtown Aurora. The JH Hospitality group launched Touche French Creole in April at 6 N. River St., one of a trio of restaurants it has opened in the historic Hobbs Building. The venue joins others located on either side of it at the Hobbs Building including Giardino Trattoria & Pizzeria at 12 N. River St. and Leilani Asian Fusion at 2 N.
