Acceptance of entomophagy, or eating arthropods, is low in the United States, University of Missouri Extension field horticulturist Tamra Reall says, but look for numbers to grow as efforts are made to feed the growing world population. More than a quarter of the world’s population already eats insects as a protein source. Most edible insect species have nutritional yields comparable to conventional meat on a per-gram basis, according to the National Institutes of Health.

CANTON, Mo. — Faith Younce never intended to graduate from Culver-Stockton College. The Kansas City native, who grew up in the St. Louis area before moving with her family to Washington state, planned to earn a degree at Iowa Wesleyan University. “That’s where both of my parents went, and I was given a full tuition scholarship. You can’t really pass that up,” Younce said.

QUINCY — Cole Wray stepped back in time Tuesday, glimpsing what farming was like more than a century ago. The high school junior and fellow members of the Unity FFA chapter toured the 1930s Ag Museum in Quincy, gaining an appreciation for both the past — and the present. “It’s really cool to see stuff like this. I’ve grown up on a modern farm, pretty grateful to have GPS, but it’s cool to see how stuff was done 100, 150 years and even longer ago than that,” he said.

QUINCY — The cast has plenty of words to describe the Quincy High School spring play. Intriguing. Hysterical. Chaotic. Engaging. Zany. The comedic farce “O Promise Me” takes the stage at 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights in the QHS Theatre. “This is a show that keeps you laughing. Every act is something new unfolding. You’re never not going to be entertained,” said Keyarri Holder, a senior playing dream girl Gladys Vance.
