Santa Rita Fire puts out large slash pile fire in Sahuarita

TUCSON, ARIZ. (KGUN 9) — Santa Rita Fire crews put out a fire off the 16000 block of South Delgado Road Thursday. Fire officials say they found a large pile of debris on fire, generating a lot of smoke in the area of East Sahuarita Road and South Country Club Road at around 2:20 p.m. Crews were able to control the fire within 15 minutes of arriving and spent several hours handling debris to make sure the fire was put out. Corona De Tucson Firefighters also assisted.
Tucson Fire crews investigate cause of house fire on Southeast side

TUCSON, Ariz. (KGUN) — Tucson Fire Department is investigating the cause of a Wednesday morning house fire near 22nd Street and Wilmot Road. According to fire officials, crews responded to the house fire reported around 7:16 a.m. in the 1300 block of South Rook Avenue. TFD says the single-story home was vacant. No injuries were reported.

UPDATE (12:00 a.m.)According to school officials, the Pima Community College El Rio campus has been cleared. UPDATE (11:05 a.m.)Tucson Police says officers are currently on the scene of a "person in crisis." The area in the 1200 block of N. Riverview Blvd., off Speedway just west of I-10, remains blocked off to the public.

MARANA, AZ (KGUN 9) — Marana Mayor Ed Honea passed away Friday morning at the age of 77-years-old. The mayor graduated from Marana High School, the U.S. Naval School of Construction, and Pima Community College. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and is a lifetime member of VFW Post 5990 in Marana.
Tucson Police investigating midtown homicide

TUCSON, Ariz. (KGUN 9) — Tucson Police are investigating a midtown homicide that happened just after 2:00 a.m. on July 12th. According to police they responded to the 600 block of West Miracle Mile. Upon arrival they say officers found a man with obvious signs of trauma. After rendering aid, Tucson Fire crews responded and continued life saving measures. The man however was pronounced dead on the scene and has been identified as 23-year-old Ian Lopez. No suspects have been identified.

MARANA, Ariz. (KGUN) — A local business owner in Marana is channeling her grief for the greater good of her community. Her business Nurse Next Door is helping people across Southern Arizona. Traci Raymond started Nurse Next Door in Marana, but now works all over Southern Arizona, from Nogales to Picture Rocks. "What we do is we do care-giving in the home," Raymond said.
Old urgent care building in Marana will soon be a school

MARANA, Ariz. (KGUN) — Marana Unified School District is making history by transforming an old urgent care facility into a new school. IChoose Academy will be located in a building off of North Silverbell Road and West Twin Peaks Road. It will be a personalized learning academy for high school students, with some career technical education programming, according to Dan Streeter, MUSD superintendent. The project is expected to be completed by fall of 2025, serving around 400 students.
Tucson Bicycle Classic headed to Marana Friday

MARANA, Ariz. (KGUN) — The Tucson Bicycle Marana Time Trial on Friday will bring 600 cyclists to the town, with many of them traveling from all over the country. The event is off North Adonis Road and North Mandarina Boulevard, near I-10 and Tangerine. Many of the participants are traveling to the area from all over the country. "We’ve been here all week, doing a team camp. We've been riding the roads, you know, Mount Lemmon—all that good stuff," Evan Carson said.
