Arizona Public Media

Arizona Public Media (AZPM) serves as the public broadcasting arm of the University of Arizona, delivering radio and television services along with local news for southern and southeastern Arizona, all from its Tucson studios. AZPM operates two main radio stations associated with NPR: KUAZ and KUAZ-FM, which feature news and talk shows, and KUAT-FM, which plays classical music. Additionally, AZPM runs KUAT-TV, known as "PBS 6," which is the PBS affiliate for the area. The organization is located in the Modern Languages Building on the University of Arizona campus.

    In 1960, the U.S. Air Force began constructing 54 launch complexes for the new Titan II missile system. The ICBMs were controlled by three Air Force Bases in the U.S., including Davis-Monthan in Tucson. During the life of the program, 18 missile silos, control rooms, and sets of living quarters surrounded Tucson. All but one were destroyed to fulfill a treaty with the Soviet Union. The one remaining facility is the Titan Missile Museum in Green Valley.

Father Ed Lucero with the Diocese of Tucson said it was exciting and surprising how quickly the cardinals made their decision. The process started on Wednesday, and today, after a fourth round of voting white smoke rose from the Sistine Chapel, signaling a new pope had been chosen. “So we are very happy,” he said. “Pope Leo XIV — we'll be using his name for the masses starting now.
