A blufftop mansion built five years ago in Winnetka sold today for $12 million, the highest price anyone has paid for a Chicago-area home so far in 2025. The sale of the seven-bedroom home on a Sheridan Road site with 100 feet of Lake Michigan shoreline eclipsed the $10.1 million sale in March of a Gold Coast condo and and quickly displaced last week's $9.57 million sale as Winnetka's highest.

Plans for the future of Pope Leo XIV's childhood home in Dolton have become contentious, as a former village employee who was once part of disgraced Mayor Tiffany Henyard's circle has filed a legal bid to stop her successor from trying to make the village the next owner of the modest Cape Cod-style house.

A Chicago couple who spent 18 months hunting for a Southwest Michigan second home in the $1.5 million range missed out on one glorious summer, but they won’t miss this one. In May, the pair paid the full asking price, a little under $1.55 million, for a furnished four-bedroom house and pool on three-quarters of an acre in Union Pier, Michigan, 72 miles from downtown Chicago.

In a new round of rehabs of derelict housing, the city is playing a larger financial role, easing the cost for both the small developers who do the rehabs and the homebuyers who will ultimately own them. In the program, called Rebuild 2.0 and focused on property in Roseland and Englewood, the city is taking over two elements of a developer's cost to bring a rundown property up to current homeownership standards.

What would summer in Chicago be without its incomparable Lakefront Trail, that ribbon of pavement that runs 18 miles from end to end between the spectacular beauty of Lake Michigan and the city’s skyline, parks and lagoons? This spectacular asset flows past so many great spots, WBEZ’s Reset needed to split its lakefront architectural guide in two. Last year, we toured the southern portion from the South Shore Cultural Center at 79th Street to the Navy Pier Flyover.

This nicely rehabbed Astor Street mansion I showed you in Jan sold today for over asking. January: sellers planned to list this spring at $3,375,000. It never listed because buyers contacted the agent, and today bought it for $3,525,000. My Jan story: https://t.co/9SGXcboiSF

Price cut of half a million dollars today on this David Adler design in Lake Forest. A Tommy Hilfiger exec did a big rehab in 2014, listed it August 2023 for < $7 m. Lates price cut takes it to just below $5 m. My Aug 2023 story: https://t.co/VnAAcWevle

Broadcast news legend Walter Jacobson landed a buyer for his Astor Street co-op quickly. Ten days from list to contract (including 1 price cut). https://t.co/zDtmAbP1gS
