David Hoffmann, a former longtime Winnetka resident whose family's companies have recently bought Oberweis Dairy, ferries to Michigan's Mackinac Island and several newspapers, bought an $85 million mansion in Naples, Fla. Hoffmann and his wife, Jerri Hoffmann, who have owned a home in Winnetka since the 1990s but are now based in Florida, bought the eight-bedroom mansion with 250 feet of frontage on Naples Bay in mid-April through a land trust that conceals their names in public records.

The founder of a four-decade-old travel company that leads alumni of schools including Northwestern and the universities of Chicago and Wisconsin on overseas tours bought an opulent 19th century Gold Coast mansion that was rehabbed extensively in the 21st century. In mid-April, Thomas and Virginia Gohagan paid $6.75 million for a six-bedroom mansion on State Parkway, according to the Cook County Clerk.

The room's formality and details like a chair rail molding suggest a vintage home, Questal says, but "the curved walls tell you it's not." They don't show up well in a photo, but the walls of the dining room have a slight curve that make the space "feel like a hug," as she puts it.
