The mother of Caitlin Hodges – the Crystal Lake woman who went missing last year and whose remains were identified this month – said she hopes authorities in North Carolina are able to figure out how she died and who could be responsible. “She was so beautiful. She had a beautiful soul,” Diane Hodges told the Northwest Herald, speaking of Caitlin, who was 29 was the youngest of Diane Hodges’ three daughters.

Remains found in North Carolina have been confirmed to belong to missing Crystal Lake woman Caitlin Hodges, 29, according to authorities. The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office confirmed in a Thursday news release that human remains found in Goldsboro, North Carolina, in December had been were determined to Hodges’. That was a reversal of an earlier determination in March that the remains did not belong to Hodges, who had been reported missing to the Goldsboro Police Department on July 25, 2024.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office announced the police activity after 9 p.m. near Terra Cotta Road and Nunda Trail, in a residential area northwest of the intersection of Routes 31 and 176. Authorities said there was no threat to the public and asked people to avoid the area until further notice.

A woman who was fatally struck by a car in Island Lake Friday has been identified. The Lake County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as Kristen Koehnke, 41, of Island Lake. Koehnke was pronounced dead at scene, which was along Route 176 east of Waters Edge Drive. A preliminary investigation found that Koehnke was struck by a 2018 Chevrolet Colorado driven by a 21-year-old female from Glenview, the coroner’s office said in Tuesday a news release, which did not give the driver’s name.
