The mother of Caitlin Hodges – the Crystal Lake woman who went missing last year and whose remains were identified this month – said she hopes authorities in North Carolina are able to figure out how she died and who could be responsible. “She was so beautiful. She had a beautiful soul,” Diane Hodges told the Northwest Herald, speaking of Caitlin, who was 29 was the youngest of Diane Hodges’ three daughters.
Missing Crystal Lake woman’s remains identified in North Carolina

Remains found in North Carolina have been confirmed to belong to missing Crystal Lake woman Caitlin Hodges, 29, according to authorities. The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office confirmed in a Thursday news release that human remains found in Goldsboro, North Carolina, in December had been were determined to Hodges’. That was a reversal of an earlier determination in March that the remains did not belong to Hodges, who had been reported missing to the Goldsboro Police Department on July 25, 2024.
Police activity reported near Crystal Lake

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office announced the police activity after 9 p.m. near Terra Cotta Road and Nunda Trail, in a residential area northwest of the intersection of Routes 31 and 176. Authorities said there was no threat to the public and asked people to avoid the area until further notice.
Pedestrian hit by car and killed in Island Lake identified

A woman who was fatally struck by a car in Island Lake Friday has been identified. The Lake County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as Kristen Koehnke, 41, of Island Lake. Koehnke was pronounced dead at scene, which was along Route 176 east of Waters Edge Drive. A preliminary investigation found that Koehnke was struck by a 2018 Chevrolet Colorado driven by a 21-year-old female from Glenview, the coroner’s office said in Tuesday a news release, which did not give the driver’s name.

Algonquin home damaged in fire; occupant treated for burns

A fire broke out in a single-family home late Tuesday in Algonquin, rendering the structure uninhabitable and causing minor injuries to an occupant. The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District was called to the fire in the 900 block of Zange Drive, arriving in less than three minutes to find flames showing from second-floor windows, the fire district said in a news release.

Start counting your chickens: A Chick-fil-A is headed to McHenry this year. Mayor Wayne Jett made the announcement at his State of the City address Thursday, saying the city spent years in talks with the national franchise. Restaurant developers plan to break ground in March on new a new building near the intersection of Route 31-Richmond Road and McCullom Lake Road between U-Haul and Casey’s, with a tentative opening date in August or September, Jett said.

One person died at the scene and five others were injured, four critically, when two cars collided in Woodstock Sunday. Three of those injured were juveniles, first responders said. The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District was called to Route 14 near Dean Street at about 3:15 p.m. to find two cars heavily damaged in the middle of the road with people trapped in both, Public Information Officer Alex Vucha said in a news release.
