If there's a "ground zero" for Georgia's "forever chemical" pollution problems, it's the state's northwest corner, the heart of the region's famedtextile and flooring industry. For decades, factories in the area have used the manmade compounds - known by their chemical name per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS, for short - to make products stain- and water-resistant.
