Two people were injured in a three-vehicle crash Monday morning that closed Highway 12 for more than an hour, the Dane County Sheriff's Office said. Emily B. Olson, 29, of Cottage Grove, was driving east on Highway 12 about 7:30 a.m. and stopped to make a left turn to Oak Park Road in the town of Deerfield. Tammy J. Reichert, 31, of Deerfield, who was also driving east, struck Olson's vehicle from behind.
Last-minute plea deal ends murder trial in shooting case

With a jury chosen and waiting to hear opening statements in his murder trial, a Madison man took a deal and pleaded guilty Tuesday morning to shooting another man to death last summer on Madison’s South Side. Tyrone M. Isaac Jr., 28, was headed to trial Tuesday on a first-degree intentional homicide charge for the Aug. 30 shooting death of Darren L. Goodwan, 27, but instead pleaded guilty to second-degree reckless homicide.
Two fires hit Beloit homes on Sunday

Fires damaged two homes on Sunday in Beloit, including one in which three firefighters sustained minor injuries. The first was reported at 1:22 p.m. at 1506 Jackson St. Firefighters arrived to see smoke and fire coming from the rear of the home. Nobody was home, but a dog was rescued and given oxygen and was reported to be doing fine.
Man charged with reckless homicide for sale of fatal drug

A North Side man was charged Friday with first-degree reckless homicide after a woman told police she had bought heroin from him that caused the death of a co-user in July. Roger W. Jones, 35, denied that he had sold the woman any drugs, though he admitted he had been with her on July 8, according to a criminal complaint filed in Dane County Circuit Court. Court Commissioner Brian Asmus ordered Jones held on $35,000 bail during a court hearing Friday.
Ex-state agent and Sun Prairie cop pleads guilty to child enticement

A former state Division of Criminal Investigation agent pleaded guilty Wednesday to a felony child enticement charge and faces sentencing next week by a Dane County judge. Two other charges against Lamont L. Crockett, 35, of Shorewood, were dismissed as part of a plea agreement in which prosecutors and Crockett and his attorney will ask Circuit Judge David Conway to place Crockett on five years of probation, with nine months in jail as a condition of his probation.

A Madison man who shot his brother to death nearly two years ago, then fled and tried to avoid arrest, was sentenced Tuesday to eight years in prison for an event that the mother of the two men said has "ripped apart" their family. Speaking in court, Edward I. Smith, 42, told Dane County Circuit Judge David Conway that if someone else had killed his brother, Santrie Riley, 36, he would never forgive that person.

A man whose threatening phone call over a hospital bill caused a lockdown Friday morning at Unity Point Health-Meriter Hospital was charged Tuesday with making terrorist threats. The 22-year-old man was upset about a bill for a $3,000 charge at Meriter and made threats to kill himself and others during a phone call to Meriter, according to a criminal complaint filed in Dane County Circuit Court.
