Kovar ran 1:57.45, just behind East Bernard's Daniel Breitenwischer, who finished in 1:57.34. Kovar advances to the Class 3A state meet in Austin in two weeks. Murray, who won the area meet last week with a height of 12' 7", cleared 12' 0" to win the regional meet. The second-place finisher was more than a foot back at 10' 9". It's been 10 years since the Lufkin had a district softball title, but the Lady Panthers ended that drought with a 10-6 win at Texas High Friday night. The win gave Lufkin a share of the District 10-5A title with Hallsville.

Lufkin's baseball and softball teams make the long trip to Texarkana today to face Texas High, with the Lady Panthers closing out district play and the Panthers trying to clinch a playoff berth with a win. The Panthers (19-7, 11-2) are in second place in District 10-5A with three games remaining. Texas High is two games back at 9-4. Lufkin leads fifth-place Mount Pleasant (18-8, 9-5) by three games, and a win over Texas High tonight would give Lufkin a spot in the playoffs.
