CARTHAGE, Texas (KLTV) - The Tyson Foods plant in Carthage was evacuated shortly after midnight Tuesday following an ammonia leak. The Carthage Fire Department responded and ensured the plant had been evacuated, according to Fire Chief Gene Giles. Officials opened the Carthage Civic Center as a shelter and temporarily evacuated some homes north of the plant. A Tyson worker wearing protective gear managed to close the valve and stop the leak, Giles said.
