ALTOONA, Wis. (WEAU) - Altoona woman claims to be a victim in a theft by deception caseMore than 300 people across 25 states and even Australia, gave irreplaceable mementos to a woman in Georgia and never got them back and one woman in Altoona claims to be a victim. Kearston Thibedeau said that she bought a custom ring made of her breastmilk from a business called Romeo and Juliette Keepsakes. The owner of the business was arrested. Police are recommending charges of theft by deception.

One person dead in motorcycle crash in Town of Clayton

Town of Clayton, Wis. (WEAU) - One person is dead in a motorcycle crash in the Town of Clayton. According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, a call was received Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 8:15 p.m. of a motorcycle crash on Highway D, west of State Highway 63 in the Town of Clayton. An eastbound motorcycle went off the roadway after attempting to turn on a curve on County Highway D. The operator of the motorcycle was not wearing a helmet and sustained fatal injuries.

Now the cast has reunited to celebrate in Pepin, the birthplace of Laura Ingalls Wilder who created the story. MENONOMIE, Wis. (WEAU) - The Menomonie Police Department is looking for a suspect in an armed robbery in Menomonie. According to the Menomonie Police Department, crews responded to an armed robbery Friday, May 10, 2024, at 9:35 p.m. on Broadway Street at the Circle C & Deli. Investigation shows that a male subject entered the business with a machete style knife pointed towards the store clerk. The suspect then removed cash from several registers and fled the scene on foot.

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) - Congressman Derrick Van Orden held a healthcare roundtable discussing action plans regarding the closures of HSHS hospitals and Prevea clinics. The healthcare roundtable consisted of elected officials and healthcare representatives from Oakleaf, Mayo, and Marshfield. During the meeting they spoke about the issues with emergency rooms and how there is no psychiatric beds left. Congressman Van Orden said the release of 15 million dollars in state funds was also discussed.
Chippewa Falls looking to replace all lead pipes in the city

CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (WEAU) - Chippewa Falls is looking to replace all of the lead pipes in the city. The city currently has most of the public pipes replaced. Now this ordinance that’s being presented is for homeowners who may still have lead or galvanized pipes on their private property. The Director of Public Works, Brandon Cesafsky said the replacing of these pipes will lead to healthier drinking water for residents.

CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (WEAU) - In Chippewa Falls, anyone can access Narcan by going to one of the three boxes located at the YMCA. Narcan is a nasal spray that can save someone’s life if they overdose. But Chippewa County Public Health wants to have more resources available by adding a public health vending machine. “The primary things required by the grant that we are currently applying for are Fentanyl testing strips and Narcan nasal spray.
Pro-Palestinian protest at UW-Eau Claire

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) - College protests have been going on for the past two weeks all over the country, including one in UW-Madison this week. Friday morning some UW-Eau Claire students held a pro-Palestinian protest. Dozens of students gathered to protest in front of Centennial Hall on the UW-Eau Claire campus. They are asking for the end of what they describe as the genocide happening to Palestinians.
