SHENANDOAH JUNCTION — Per NCAA rules, Division II athletes can practice up to four hours a day and 20 hours a week. However, long days in the gym, games and time on the road have not stopped five Shepherd basketball players from shining in the classroom. Two members of the Shepherd University men’s basketball team and three members of the women’s team have been named to the 2024-2025 CSC Academic All-District Teams.

MORGANTOWN — Washington Patriot Mary Rivera and Spring Mills Cardinal Kilah Dandridge have earned prestigious WVSSAC Class AAAA All-State 1st Team girls basketball honors. Both athletes are seniors and helped lead their teams to the WVSSAC Girls Basketball Tournament this season. Brooke Allen (Jefferson), Rylee Bodkins (Hedgesville), Bri King (Spring Mills), Jasmine Morris (Musselman, Addy Strovel (Martinsburg) and Aaliyah Wymer (Martinsburg) were named as All-State Honorable Mentions.

HEDGESVILLE — The Hedgesville Eagles scored a grand total of 14 runs to defeat the Berkeley Springs Indians, 14-9, on Thursday night. The win extended Hedgesville’s overall record this season to 3-1 and dropped Berkeley Springs to 2-4. Berkeley Springs took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Indians then held onto their lead until the bottom of the second, when Hedgesville’s Maggie Boyer hit a line drive into right field.

CHARLES TOWN — The Washington Patriots secured a nail-biting one-run victory over the Spring Mills Cardinals on Wednesday night, forcing the game into an extra inning. Washington advanced to 3-1 overall and Spring Mills fell to 3-2. Within the Eastern Panhandle Athletic Conference, the Patriots are now 1-0 and the Cardinals are 0-2. Both teams brought powerhouses of pitchers to keep the game scoreless during the first seven innings.
