DiscussionIn this study, we explored changes in sleep pattern during the COVID-19 pandemic in a genetically informative cohort of 6453 adults with a self-reported lifetime history of depression. This unique natural experiment unveiled significant shifts in sleep patterns. Despite increased flexibility to adjust their sleep schedules due to ‘lockdown’ regulations, the proportion of individuals with optimal sleep decreased, leading to transitions towards both short and long sleep patterns.

OBJECTIVE: Suicidal behavior is heritable and is a major cause of death worldwide. Two large-scale genome-wide association studies (GWASs) recently discovered and cross-validated genome-wide significant (GWS) loci for suicide attempt (SA). The present study leveraged the genetic cohorts from both studies to conduct the largest GWAS meta-analysis of SA to date.

AbstractThe dominant (‘general’) version of the diathesis-stress theory of depression views stressors and genetic vulnerability as independent risks. In the Australian Genetics of Depression Study (N = 14,146; 75% female), we tested whether polygenic scores (PGS) for major depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, anxiety, ADHD, and neuroticism were associated with reported exposure to 32 childhood, past-year, lifetime, and accumulated stressful life events (SLEs).

AbstractMost genome-wide association studies (GWAS) of major depression (MD) have been conducted in samples of European ancestry. Here we report a multi-ancestry GWAS of MD, adding data from 21 cohorts with 88,316 MD cases and 902,757 controls to previously reported data. This analysis used a range of measures to define MD and included samples of African (36% of effective sample size), East Asian (26%) and South Asian (6%) ancestry and Hispanic/Latin American participants (32%).

While the top surface did start to cut up after the first few races, the sod remained generally firm, making for good running. Wexford’s top performer was Emma Hickey of United Striders. Having recently taken the Leinster Under-16 title, she cruised to a convincing win in the Under-15 race.
