SIOUX CENTER—The Sioux Center School District Board of Education during its May 19 meeting was pleased with how well the high school graduation ceremony went at its new location. This year’s graduation ceremony was held May 18 at the Sioux Center High School gym, a departure from the typical location at Dordt University’s BJ Haan Auditorium, which is undergoing construction as part of an expansion project.

SIOUX CENTER—The Sioux County Conservation Board has renamed the former Sandy Hollow Clubhouse at Sandy Hollow Recreation Area east of Sioux Center. The structure will now be known as the Sandy Hollow Lodge. The decision to grant the facility a new name represents a new chapter in the life of a building that’s been a part of the campground for many years. Now an event hall that people can rent out for gatherings, it started life as a golf club hangout and restaurant.

With parents, business leaders and city leaders gathered around her, library director Becky Bilby called the completed work the fulfilling of a dream started by her predecessor, Judy Dirkse.

ORANGE CITY—Eleven months after the devastating June 21-22 flooding throughout much of N’West Iowa, the Sioux County Board of Supervisors during its Tuesday, May 20 meeting made continued progress on its application for the land buyback program. The supervisors unanimously approved the total appraised value of eight properties for consideration under the buyback program, in effect setting the maximum spending allowed under the program at $4,033,700.
