SIOUX CENTER—Students from schools throughout N'West Iowa turned out for the annual educational experiences found at Dordt University's Ag Day held on campus April 25. Loaded with exhibits and livestock, knowledgeable community volunteers and Dordt students were on hand to teach their guests.

SIOUX CENTER—April 21 was unofficially budget day for local government, as both the Sioux Center City Council and Sioux Center School District Board of Education considered and approved their respective budgets for the upcoming fiscal year. Over at the city council, which approved the budget in a 5-0 vote, the city budget sets the tax rate on Sioux Center property at $11.244 per $1,000 of assessed value. This tax rate is an increase of 1.16 percent from the current fiscal year’s rate of $11.11.

SIOUX CENTER—The Sioux Center School District plans to share a bit about what makes it so special when it completes a professionally produced video in time for the 2025-26 academic year. According to superintendent Gary McEldowney, the district is in the early planning stages with Mud Mile Communications of Omaha, NE, to create a video a few minutes long to be shared with groups such as the Sioux Center Chamber of Commerce and to post on the district’s website.

ORANGE CITY—The Sioux County Board of Supervisors wrapped up its budget season Tuesday having unanimously approved its budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year, including salary and wage increases for county employees. The tax levy for the next fiscal year is set at $5.37 per $1,000 in property valuation, up slightly from this fiscal year’s $5.36. The new levy, which should generate an estimated $12 million, comes on the back of a 3.6 percent increase in countywide property valuations.

IOUX CENTER—Sioux Center Middle School leaders organized some spirited competition for its students in grades 6-8 in the form of a pickleball tournament. This is the third year the school has held the tournament, which was open to all students and even included teachers. It took place April 4 and 16.
