IOWA CITY -- Sergeant Bluff-Luton captured third place in the Iowa Class 1A boys state team tennis tournament Tuesday after knocking off Decorah 5-3 in the consolation round Wednesday. SB-L clinched the victory in the second doubles match, with the duo of Tyler Grote and Carter Gehling outlasting Decorah's Tristan Hunter and Elliot Berland, 5-7, 6-1, 1-0.

IOWA CITY -- Sergeant Bluff-Luton swept Waverly-Shell Rock, 5-0, in the quarterfinals of the Iowa Class 1A boys state team tennis tournament Tuesday. The Warriors, the No. 3 seed, were set to meet fourth-seeded Dubuque Wahlert Catholic in the semifinals later Tuesday at the Hawkeye Tennis & Recreation Center in Iowa City. Wahlert, the #2 seed, advanced with 5-0 win over #7 seed Pella. Here are the results of SB-L's quarterfinal round over Waverly-Shell Rock.

SIOUX CITY -- With cool, wet weather in the forecast, two metro Sioux City outdoor pools won't open as originally scheduled for Memorial Day weekend. The city of Sioux City announced Friday the first day of swimming at the Riverside Aquatic Center, which had been set for Saturday, has been pushed back to May 31. The South Sioux City Aquaplex's opening day, which was scheduled for Saturday, will now be May 30, according to the pool's website.

SIOUX CITY -- Missouri River Historical Development (MRHD) on Thursday awarded $500,000 to 33 local governments, charities and nonprofit groups in the tri-state region. About 100 people attended MRHD's Targeted Grant awards ceremony at the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center in Sioux City. The Target Grants provide up to $25,000 for one year to support a variety of short-term projects, programs or capacity building items. Applicants did not need matching funds to apply.

Morningside University President Albert Mosley has been named one of three finalists for the president's job at Bethune-Cookman University, a private historically black college in Daytona Beach, Fla. Mosley, 52, has served as Morningside president since June 2022. He succeeded John Reynders, who retired after 23 years as the Sioux City-based private school's longest-sitting president. The news was earlier reported by The Palm Beach Post.
