SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - The Northwest Iowa community of Odebolt had a longtime connection to the delicious combination of caramel-coated popcorn that’s packed with tasty nuts. “By 1911, Odebolt became the popcorn center of the world. They were producing more popcorn than any other place,” according to author Sandra Kessler Host, who grew up near Odebolt. She was fascinated by the community’s history. That history includes a long-gone connection to Cracker Jack that can still be seen around town.

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - It was a building designed to withstand the weight of the heaviest trucks on any of its six floors when it opened in 1921. But now the Benson Building has undergone a historic rehabilitation and received the “Treasure of Sioux City” award for its dramatic transformation into apartments and commercial space. What’s known now as the Benson Lofts at 7th and Douglas opened in 1921 as the Warnock Building.

Hahn was a Pittsburgh native and Steelers fan, and his deep, crisp voice was a familiar sound for years on Sioux City radio. Most recently, he was at KSCJ and the Powell Broadcasting Stations in Sioux City.

ODEBOLT, Iowa (KTIV) - These days, the size of the average Iowa farm is roughly 345 acres. So, it’s hard to believe that at one time, Odebolt, Iowa, bordered two farms that were roughly 20 times bigger. History now knows them as the Adams Ranch and the Cook Ranch. Both were so-called “Bonanza” farms that were the forerunners of the modern agri-business industry. Odebolt has a population of just under 1,000 people.

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - The National Drug Enforcement Administration is holding its 28th annual prescription drug take back event this weekend. The DEA is working with state and local partners to make safe medication disposal accessible to everyone. This event helps communities prevent prescription drug misuse and raise awareness of the dangers of keeping unneeded medications in the home. The take back sites will be open from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. this Saturday, April 26.
