    ODEBOLT, Iowa (KTIV) - These days, the size of the average Iowa farm is roughly 345 acres. So, it’s hard to believe that at one time, Odebolt, Iowa, bordered two farms that were roughly 20 times bigger. History now knows them as the Adams Ranch and the Cook Ranch.          Both were so-called “Bonanza” farms that were the forerunners of the modern agri-business industry.          Odebolt has a population of just under 1,000 people.

The DEA is working with state and local partners to make safe medication disposal accessible to everyone. This event helps communities prevent prescription drug misuse and raise awareness of the dangers of keeping unneeded medications in the home. The take back sites will be open from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. this Saturday, April 26.

    SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - The loss of a loved one in combat is difficult for any family, but imagine losing five brothers in battle at once. That was the fate of the Sullivan family of Waterloo during World War II. Following the death of their sister’s boyfriend aboard the USS Arizona during the attack on Pearl Harbor, the five Sullivan boys enlisted in the Navy on the condition that they serve together. There were 38 sets of brothers and a father and son aboard the Arizona when it was sunk that day.

    SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - On Saturday, April 12, a Siouxland museum will begin displaying a rare artifact that dates back to the Lewis and Clark Expedition. It’s a peace medal that came through Sioux City in the summer of 1804. The medal was issued during the presidency of Thomas Jefferson and given to Native American leaders along the way as a symbol of peace and friendship.

Not only did it bring the first teacher to town, but it also opened the door to an era of westward expansion. The most respected person piloting riverboats on the Missouri was Grant Marsh. He took part in the longest riverboat race in history and also rescued the survivors of Custer’s last stand.
