Established in 1864, it provides news coverage for northwestern Iowa, as well as parts of Nebraska and South Dakota. Over the years, the Journal has received many accolades at the state, regional, and national levels. Notably, it was recognized as one of the "10 that do it right" by the publishing industry magazine Editor and Publisher in both 2009 and 2013.

    DES MOINES — Gov. Kim Reynolds this week announced the appointment of a new director to lead the Iowa Department for the Blind after a monthslong search. The search was launched to fill the role after the former director resigned last July while battling Stage 4 kidney cancer. Stacy Cervenka will lead the Iowa Department for the Blind starting July 7.
