MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison Gas and Electric (MGE) is experiencing technical difficulties with its phone system and is encouraging electric or gas customers who experience an emergency to call 911. The company is working to resolve the situation as soon as possible, according to a news release sent Tuesday evening by Dana Brueck, MGE's Director of Corporate Communications. Customers who visit MGE's website will also be notified of the situation.

DANE COUNTY, Wis. (WKOW) -- The man charged in a stabbing at a Sun Prairie Walmart will be placed in institutional care. Miguel Barajas-Ceballos was charged with attempted homicide for the October 2023 attack. Police say he stabbed a man at the store, then led officers on a chase into Madison. This also led to a felony charge of fleeing/eluding an officer. During court proceedings, Barajas-Ceballos' attorney said his client had been diagnosed with schizophrenia. A competency exam was ordered.
Daughter of deceased Blue Mounds woman to be booked on homicide charge

BLUE MOUNDS, Wis. (WKOW) - The 31-year-old woman originally identified as a person of interest in the death of her mother in the village of Blue Mounds will be booked into jail on a homicide charge once she is released from the hospital, according to the Dane County Sheriff's Office. Deputies were called to a disturbance at a home on Smokey Mountain Trail just before noon on Monday. Deputies and officers from the Mount Horeb Police Department found evidence outside and went into the home.
Crews fight fire at home outside Middleton

TOWN OF SPRINGFIELD, Wis. (WKOW) -- Fire crews from Middleton and several other local agencies were called to a house fire just outside of Middleton Wednesday afternoon. The fire was reported on High Road just after 3 p.m., according to the Dane County Communications Center. Sgt. Kyle Keller with the Dane County Sheriff's Office says the single-family home was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived. He says the house was not occupied at the time of the fire.

MADISON (WKOW) -- One man was hurt after an armed robbery in Madison over the weekend. Police were called to South Park Street near Haywood Drive around 12:10 a.m. Saturday. Someone called 911 after an injured man approached her vehicle, according to an incident report by Madison Police Department Spokesperson Stephanie Fryer. Fryer says the man told police he was sitting in his car when two other men came up to the vehicle and showed a gun. The man said the suspects beat him and stole his phone.

It comes as a member of the Dane County Board of Supervisors is pushing for an audit of the organization. Urban Triage was founded by Brandi Grayson. It was incorporated into a 501(c)(3) in 2019. It provides educational and housing programs to people in need. In recent years, the nonprofit has received millions of dollars in grants from the county for housing programs.

MADISON (WKOW) -- Police say a car that was reported to be "zooming in and out of traffic" hit an SUV, which caused the SUV to roll over and led to injuries to the four people inside the vehicle. Officers were called to eastbound Highway 12 near Rimrock Road around 6:40 p.m. Saturday. Madison Police Department spokesperson Stephanie Fryer says witnesses reported seeing two vehicles speeding and going in and out of traffic.
Missing Rio woman found dead, Silver Alert canceled

By Evan Bolin RIO, Wis. (WKOW) -- Authorities say a missing woman from Rio has been found dead. The Columbia County Sheriff's Office issued a Silver Alert for Sally Epps around 8:50 p.m. Monday. About 25 minutes later, the agency sent out a follow-up notification, indicating Epps had been found deceased. The Silver Alert was then canceled.
