SYCAMORE – The former home of a Burger King and cash lone store in Sycamore could become a used car dealership. On Monday, the Sycamore Planning and Zoning Commission voted to recommend Sycamore City Council approve a request by Greg Majeski to rezone the property at 1710 DeKalb Avenue to allow for the dealership dubbed Majeski Motors. Majeski bought the property in 2022, according to city documents. The council vote is expected at a later date.

St. Paul and Crossview had a wild one earlier this week in DeKalb County Church League Softball action, with St. Paul winning, 14-13. Troy Vonderheide went the distance for the win while Bob Love suffered the loss. Paul Garlisch powered the Lutherans offensively. First Baptist Sycamore defeated Sycamore United Methodist 13-2 behind strong pitching from James High. Colin Eggleson had two triples on the night and Greyson Scott homered to power the winners.

YORKVILLE – School District Y115 is moving ahead with plans to hire two professional athletic trainers. The Yorkville school board approved the proposal at a committee meeting on June 12. The trainers will provide strength and conditioning programing, conduct physical testing and perform injury prevention and care services for student athletes at Yorkville High School and Yorkville Academy. Currently, the school district contracts with a private firm to provide the training services.

A committee to explore the expansion of Joliet Junior College’s presence in Grundy County was presented to the Joliet Junior College Board of Trustees on Wednesday, May 10. Several members of the exploratory committee spoke to the Board of Trustees to illustrate the growth taking place in Grundy County and the potential JJC has to meet education and workforce demands.
