SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - New reaction Thursday to the major announcement from Hyundai. The company says it now plans to eventually make half a million cars each year at its new Bryan County plant in Ellabell. That’s 200,000 more than originally announced. At the grand opening for its new Ellabell car and manufacturing plant, automaker Hyundai said it plans to eventually increase the number of cars made here from 300,000 to 500,000 each year.

BRYAN COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - Hyundai is holding a grand opening Wednesday for its new electric vehicle plant in Bryan County. The grand opening of Hyundai’s meta plant is taking place on-site Wednesday afternoon. The event marks the start of the largest economic project in Georgia’s history. The first vehicles started rolling off the assembly line at the new Metaplant almost six months ago, with the IONIQ 5 being the first model.

FORT STEWART, Ga. (WTOC) - At Fort Stewart, a Chinook Army helicopter drops a crucial water supply. It’s a scene that would play out in a disaster zone, but on Tuesday, was part of a military exercise simulating catastrophic events. “We train for natural and man made disasters. That could be a hurricane response. That could be an earthquake. We also can respond to terrorist events or industrial accidents,” said Lt. Col. Damon Denzin of the Alabama National Guard.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - A proposed pool near Chippewa Square is making a splash among some residents in downtown Savannah. In Chatham County Superior Court Monday, lawyers for six plaintiffs looking to stop pool construction at a West Perry Street home said the project would be a nuisance to those living nearby. “This lawsuit is about stopping a commercial pool,” said attorney Robert Turner.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore last year is putting the focus on safety of bridges across America. A new report from the National Transportation Safety Board makes recommendations applying to 68 bridges. The structures were designed after guidance issued in 1991 by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials and don’t have a current vulnerability assessment.
