NORWALK, Conn. — The City of Norwalk’s Recreation and Parks Department has joined forces with Special Olympics Connecticut to bring the Unified Basketball program to local children aged 8 to 15. This inclusive initiative is designed for athletes with intellectual disabilities to enjoy basketball while fostering teamwork and sportsmanship. The program will occur every Friday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Ben Franklin Gym, with sessions beginning on January 10.

NORWALK, Conn. — The Norwalk Art Space invites the public to the opening reception of its latest exhibition, MASC: Unmasking Identity, Redefining Masculinity, on Friday, January 17, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. The event will feature live performances by multi-instrumentalist and composer Tyler Goldchain, poet AJoe Saint, and New Haven Poet Laureate Sharmont “Influence” Little.

Manresa Island will become a “one-of-its-kind community hub” and the abandoned power plant there will house recreational spaces, a community event hall and research facilities under a plan conceived and funded by Norwalk couple Austin and Allison McChord to be formally announced Tuesday. The McChords plan to purchase the site this fall through their new nonprofit, the Manresa Island Corp.

Following a heated budget season in Norwalk, the Common Council had a chance to listen to how other communities across the state handle their budget processes. At an informal workshop on Tuesday, members heard from local elected officials and municipal employees about how cities including Stamford, Hamden, and Hartford conduct their budget process each year. The workshop was a part of the city’s efforts to prepare for a charter revision.

No other public meetings for SNEW have previously required attendees to do so. Such registration will inevitably deter public attendance and reflects a lack of transparency. SNEW should seek to be transparent with Electors and not require any such registration in advance.
